Woman Jailed for Brutal Murder After Fatal Attack on Vulnerable Man

Cheryl O’Callaghan, 45, from Westvale, Kirkby, has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 18 years for the murder of Mr. Swift. The shocking attack followed a violent assault just a day earlier that saw the victim hospitalised before he discharged himself and returned home—only to be found dead the next day.

Fatal Assault in Wavertree

Emergency services rushed to an address on Bishopgate Street, Wavertree, at around 11.45pm on 24 March 2022, where they found Mr. Swift sadly deceased. The day before, he suffered serious injuries in a violent assault, for which he received hospital treatment. Despite this, he left hospital against medical advice and returned home, where the fatal attack took place.

Accomplices Also Sentenced

Adam Oldland, 51, of Princes Road, and Steven Hardaker, 51, of Aigburth Drive, liverpool/" title="Liverpool" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Liverpool, both admitted to perverting the course of justice linked to this case. They were each handed 25-month prison sentences for their roles in covering up the circumstances surrounding Mr. Swift’s death.

Detective Chief Inspector Condemns Crime

“This was truly a shocking case in which O’Callaghan took advantage of Mr Swift’s vulnerabilities to inflict terrible injuries during a violent assault, which later proved to be fatal,” said Detective Chief Inspector Paul Speight.

“To make matters worse, she continued to deny her involvement, forcing Mr. Swift’s family and friends to endure the trauma of a trial. Thankfully, the jury saw through her lies and convicted her of murder. She will now spend a considerable number of years behind bars where she belongs.”

“No sentence can ever replace the loss of a loved one, but hopefully knowing O’Callaghan is locked up will help Mr Swift’s family properly grieve his death.”
