Drunk Driver Busted Unconscious at Wheel in Busy High Street
Caterham Man Nabs Three-Year Driving Ban
Harry Wardens, 36, of Cromwell Road, Caterham, has been slapped with a three-year driving ban after being found passed out behind the wheel on High Street, Selsey. The alarming incident unfolded just after midday on Sunday, March 12, when a passerby alerted the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb).
Refused Tests and Ranted in Hospital
Police had already received a tip-off about Wardens drink-driving 30 minutes before. When officers arrived, Wardens flat-out refused breathalyser and drug wipe tests. His level of intoxication led to an arrest. Taken to hospital, he continued to defy medical staff by refusing blood tests and unleashed abuse on police, hospital workers, and the public in the busy A&E.
Fined and Charged After Court Appearance
Wardens faced charges including two counts of failing to provide samples and using threatening words likely to cause alarm. Remanded in custody, he appeared at Brighton Magistrates Court the next day and pleaded guilty to all offences. He was fined £85 and banned from driving for 36 months.
Police Praise Public for Reporting
“Thanks to the quick actions of concerned members of the public and our colleagues at SECAmb, this dangerous driver was stopped before more harm could be done,” said PC Tom Van Der Wee. “If you ever suspect someone is driving under the influence, don’t hesitate—call 999 immediately.”
