Thousands of homes in Sandown and nearby The Lake were plunged into darkness this Sunday evening, July 15. Scottish and Southern Electric (SSE) confirmed a 'complex' fault caused the outage.

SSE said its teams raced against the clock to restore power, targeting 8.45pm for full recovery. However, the number of affected properties remains unclear.

Good news came just after 8.30pm when Scottish and Southern Electric announced the electricity supply had been restored across the area.
