Thieves Caught Red-Handed After Stolen Car Found in Mansfield
Police swooped on two suspects after a car was reported stolen from a Mansfield home.
Quick Police Work Leads to Arrests
Officers were called to Fairholme Drive at 9.45am on 28 January following reports of a car theft. That same evening, the stolen vehicle was found abandoned in Keyworth Close after a thorough search of the area.
Detectives spotted two people walking away nearby — a 33-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman — and quickly stopped them. Neither was in the car, but both were arrested on suspicion of motor vehicle theft.
Suspect Linked to Earlier Burglary
Further checks revealed the man was wanted in connection with a break-in just a day earlier on Rosemary Street, Mansfield. He was promptly re-arrested for burglary and breaching his bail conditions.
Police Vow to Crack Down on Crime
“Thanks to the alertness of our officers, we were able to quickly return a stolen car to its owner and arrest two suspects,” said Nottinghamshire Police Constable Kate Bottomley. “We understand the deep impact the theft of a vehicle can have, which is precisely why we’re so committed to making reports of this nature as rare as possible. “Tracking down this car also led us to a suspect linked to a burglary from the day before. Nobody has the right to break into another person’s home, so we do everything to bring offenders to justice.”
