Woolwich Prison Worker Under Fire Over Romance with Murderer
Prison Staff Member Probed for Forbidden Affair
A 32-year-old employee at Woolwich Prison is under investigation over claims she had a romantic relationship with McSweeney, a notorious inmate. The drama unfolds as the prison worker faces serious scrutiny from the authorities.
McSweeney’s Savage Crime
McSweeney, 29, is serving a life sentence for the brutal June 2021 murder, sexual assault, and robbery of Zara Aleena, 35. The victim was attacked late at night while heading home from a pub in Ilford.
Met Police Launch Investigation
On April 6, the Metropolitan Police confirmed receiving an allegation of inappropriate behaviour from a staff member at Woolwich Prison. Officers arrested the 32-year-old woman on suspicion of misconduct in public office. She has been released on bail until late July while inquiries continue.
A Ministry of Justice spokesperson told The Sun: “An ongoing investigation is underway and illicit interactions within prison staff are not tolerated.
Details of McSweeney’s Heinous Attack
During his December 14 sentencing at the Old Bailey, McSweeney’s horrifying assault was laid bare. Prosecutor Oliver Glasgow KC described how McSweeney attacked Zara Aleena for nine brutal minutes, mere yards from a public road and homes.
“He continuously kicked and stamped on her head and body, ripped off some of her clothes to sexually assault her, then attacked her again multiple times, brutally torturing her,” said Glasgow KC.
“Once he was sure she couldn’t call for help, he took her mobile phone and threw it over a garden wall. The next day, he hid his bloodstained clothes and was seen laughing with friends as if nothing had happened.”
