Begging ban breaker locked up after blatant defiance in Cambridge
Jason Allum caught flouting court order
Jason Allum, 36, was slapped with a 28-day suspended sentence by Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on 13 March for breaching an interim Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO).
But shockingly, within hours he was back on the streets begging in Cambridge city centre, brazenly defying the court.
Aggressive behaviour sparks outrage
The CBO explicitly banned Allum from begging along Cambridge’s 123 Road. Yet, witnesses reported numerous episodes of aggressive begging, with Allum shouting and swearing at passersby who refused to hand over cash.
On one occasion, CCTV caught Allum entering an ATM with a woman who handed him money. He was then seen tailing a lone female pedestrian.
Seven months behind bars for repeated breaches
On Tuesday 4 April, Cambridge Magistrates’ Court handed down a harsher sentence. Allum, from Edgecombe, King’s Hedges, pleaded guilty to 20 breaches of the CBO and was sentenced to seven months in prison.
