Knife-Wielding Robber Snatches Cash from Bank Till
Roy Sinclair, 43, threatened a High Street worker with a knife before grabbing cash from a till in February 2022. The chilling robbery unfolded at Lloyds Bank in Sydenham, leaving staff terrified.
Confession After Two Days on the Run
Sinclair, from Otterden Street, handed himself over to Kent Police just two days after the heist. He admitted to robbery and carrying an offensive weapon in a public place. He’s been held on remand ever since.
The robbery happened around 3pm on Friday 4 February. Sinclair was seen wandering the bank with no clear reason. When a cashier offered help, he suddenly lunged behind the counter, brandished a knife, and warned: “No alarms or I’ll kill you.”
He grabbed discontinued £20 notes from the till and fled on foot. His hooded jumper and green jogging bottoms, spotted during the robbery, were later found at his home.
Justice Served at Maidstone Crown Court
On Monday 25 April 2022, Sinclair was sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court. He faces a two-year extended licence after his prison stint finishes.
PC Emma Laimbeer, lead investigator, said:
“The victim had every reason to believe their life was in danger. Sinclair’s custodial sentence is the only fair outcome. We do not tolerate violence against innocent people.”
