Online Predator Abdul Elahi Called ‘In a League of His Own’
Abdul Elahi, 26, is set to be sentenced for one of the UK’s most shocking online abuse cases. The Sparkhill man was branded “in a league of his own” for the scale of his offending.
Elahi preyed on vulnerable women, blackmailing some into abusing babies or siblings. His lure? Offering to clear their debts.
158 Charges, Victims Across 34 Countries
The former Allcroft Road resident pleaded guilty to 158 offences against 72 victims. But the true scale is staggering. Authorities linked him to almost 2,000 victims across the UK and US, with attempts to exploit people in 34 countries worldwide.
At Birmingham Crown Court, prosecutor Adrian Langdale QC revealed Elahi juggled numerous victims simultaneously, using a fake identity as a wealthy stockbroker to offer financial help.
“The whole persona, the whole arrangement, was a sham from the very beginning,”
said Langdale. “He simply saw his victims as a way of making money.”
Elahi was called an “exceptionally dangerous predator” who targeted victims relentlessly. He also “mentored” copycat abusers who attacked some of the same victims.
Thousands of Abusive Images and Huge Blackmail Operation
- 67,000 indecent images of children found on his devices
- “Box sets” of blackmailed footage sold in vast numbers
- Victims included desperate mothers facing eviction or feeding struggles
- Used WhatsApp chats to evade detection
- Offences spanned 2017 to 2019
Evidence showed Elahi meticulously catalogued his sick collection. Despite the harm caused, he sold the images without mercy.
‘Full-Time Career’ of Abuse
During his offending, Elahi lived at home and earned little legally, briefly working at McDonald’s. Yet he admitted to prosecutors his vile activities were his “full-time career and occupation.”
Elahi now awaits his sentence – a grim chapter on the dark underbelly of online exploitation set to close.
