Canterbury Man Jailed for Child Sexual Assault
A primary school boy was sexually assaulted by Karl Kennett in 2020 in Canterbury. The victim bravely told his parents, who alerted Kent Police.
Multiple Victims, Multiple Offences
Police uncovered earlier crimes by Kennett against a second child victim, similar in age to the first. The offences spanned over six years, with assaults at different Canterbury addresses.
Karl Kennett Sentenced to Seven Years
Following a trial at Canterbury Crown Court, the 28-year-old was found guilty of two counts of causing a child to engage in sexual activity and one count of sexual assault. On August 9, 2022, Kennett was sentenced to seven years in prison, with an additional three years of probation after release. A 12-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order was also imposed to prevent further offences.
Police Praise Victims’ Courage
I would like to praise the bravery of these two young victims, and their families, for reporting these offences and supporting the prosecution,” said Detective Constable Rebecca Keeler of Kent Police.
“Kennett refused to acknowledge what he had done, escalating the victims’ suffering and requiring a trial. I’m glad that the evidence we gathered resulted in guilty verdicts and that this dangerous man is now incarcerated for a lengthy period of time.”
