Rob Burrow Launches Inspirational New Podcast Despite MND Battle
Rugby League legend Rob Burrow MBE is back in action – but this time via podcast! The former Leeds Rhinos star, who’s bravely battling motor neurone disease, has announced “Seven: Rob Burrow”, a new seven-part series on BBC England. Burrow, communicating through a computerised voice, will chat with top sports stars about their careers, challenges, and triumphs.
Star-Studded Lineup Kicks Off with Wayne Rooney
The debut episode drops Tuesday, November 7, on The Total Sports Podcast via BBC Sounds. First up is England football ace turned Birmingham City boss Wayne Rooney. Rooney recalls the nerves of presenting Burrow and the Leeds Rhinos with their 2012 Grand Final shirts, and praises Burrow’s unstoppable energy and positivity – an inspiration to all.
Upcoming guests include:
- Jonny Wilkinson – England rugby icon and World Cup winner
- Dame Kelly Holmes – British double-Olympic gold medallist
- Kenny Logan – Scottish rugby union star
- Gabby Logan – BBC sports presenter and Kenny’s wife
- Hannah Cockcroft – British wheelchair racing champion
MND Association Powers Burrow’s Bold New Venture
Burrow, a patron of the Motor Neurone Disease Association, has worked closely with the charity to develop eye-gaze technology and his computerised voice. This tech allows him to produce the podcast, pushing the limits for people living with MND.
Tanya Curry, CEO of the MND Association, said:
“Rob is redefining what’s possible with MND. Since speech changes affect around 80% of people with the condition, this podcast is a vital platform for raising awareness and inspiring others.”
BBC Praises Podcast’s Humor and Heart
Chris Burns, BBC Controller of Local Audio Commissioning, hailed the series as “groundbreaking.” He added, “Listeners will enjoy Rob’s humour and positivity, alongside a stellar lineup of guests. This is yet another example of how local BBC Radio shares inspiring stories across England.”
“Seven: Rob Burrow” will be available on The Total Sports Podcast from November 7 and broadcast on BBC 1 Leeds. Don’t miss it!
