Driver Caught with Fake Insurance Certificate in Nottingham

21-Year-Old Pulled Over Without Insurance

Eesa Ahmed, 21, was stopped by police in New Basford on 21 March 2020. Officers discovered he was driving a black BMW 5 Series with no insurance. The car was registered to a family member.

Ahmed received a standard traffic offence report and was asked to provide proof of insurance. He later sent what looked like a valid certificate.

Fake Insurance Scam Uncovered

However, Ahmed’s supposed insurer found no record of his policy number. Investigation into Ahmed’s mobile phone revealed he paid a contact to forge a false certificate for the day he was caught.

Serious Charges and Suspended Sentence

Ahmed, from Noel Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham, pleaded guilty to:

  • Attempting to pervert the course of justice
  • Dangerous driving
  • Driving without insurance

At Nottingham Crown Court, he was handed a 34-week prison sentence, suspended for two years.

Police Issue Stark Warning

Inspector Dave Mather, Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Had this young man simply admitted to having no insurance he could have taken his punishment, learned from his mistake and got on with the rest of his life. Instead, he deliberately set out to deceive by providing a fake insurance certificate.

“He may have thought this a low-risk ploy to dodge a fine but in reality was committing an extremely serious criminal offence by attempting to pervert the course of justice. I am pleased he has now been punished and also hope this case sends out a clear warning to others about the potential consequences of lying to the police.”
