Armed Police Descend on Brighton After Man Brandishes Fake Gun
Armed officers swarmed Brighton’s city centre on Friday, August 9th, after reports of a man waving what looked like a firearm on Trafalgar Street.
Imitation Weapon Sparks Police Response
A Sussex Police spokesperson said: “Armed officers responded to a report that a man had a suspected firearm in Trafalgar Street, Brighton on Friday, August 9 at around 2.50pm.”
When cops arrived, it quickly emerged the weapon was a fake. A 49-year-old Brighton man was arrested on suspicion of possessing an imitation firearm. He has since been released on bail as enquiries continue.
Police Call for Witnesses and Footage
Sussex Police are urging anyone who saw the incident or has footage to come forward. A spokesperson added:
“If you have information or footage to report with the investigation, we ask that you contact police. You can make a report online, or by calling 101 quoting reference 845 of 09/08.”
Brighton residents are reminded to stay vigilant and report suspicious behaviour immediately.
