Hero Bystander Helps Nab Handbag Thief Targeting Elderly Woman in Dartford
Kent Police have made an arrest after a shocking attempted handbag snatch from an elderly woman in Dartford.
Victim Targeted at Bus Stop
The incident happened on Friday, May 3, 2024. The victim, an octogenarian, was waiting at a bus stop in Home Gardens when a man suddenly tried to snatch her handbag.
The thief grabbed at the bag’s strap, but the determined pensioner clung on tight.
Swift Action Leads to Arrest
A quick-thinking member of the public stepped in, stopping the thief in his tracks. Police were called immediately and arrived fast to arrest the suspect.
Sujeepan Mangaleswaran, 32, with no fixed address, was charged by North Kent CID with attempted robbery.
Legal Proceedings Underway
Mangaleswaran appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court the next day, May 4. He’s been remanded to face Maidstone Crown Court on Friday, May 31.
