43-Year-Old Man Arrested Over Massive Erith Pier Fire Released on Bail
A 43-year-old man arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life after a huge fire engulfed Erith Pier has been released on bail while police carry out further enquiries.
Blaze Erupts on Erith Pier
Emergency crews scrambled to the scene on Friday, 9 May, just after 5pm when thick smoke was spotted billowing into the sky from a large blaze at Erith Pier.
Firefighters Race to Battle Flames
London Fire Brigade crews fought hard to tame the dramatic fire. The London Ambulance Service confirmed they were called at 4.47pm and dispatched a full response, including:
- An ambulance crew
- An incident response officer
- The Hazardous Area Response Team (HART)
Thankfully, no injuries have been reported from the scene.
Suspect Released on Bail as Investigation Continues
The man was arrested at the scene and questioned before being released on bail pending ongoing inquiries.
“No charges have been brought forward at this stage,” said a spokesperson for the Met Police.
