Westcliff-on-Sea Man Caught Faking Income to Nab £25k Loan – Bankrupt Restrictions Slammed On for Nine More Years
Carlton James Johnson-Vaughton, 48, from Westcliff-on-Sea, has been hit with a nine-year extension on his bankruptcy restrictions. He must now reveal his bankruptcy every time he tries to borrow £500 or more.
Fake Payslips and False Income Claims Exposed
In March 2019, Johnson-Vaughton secured a £25,000 loan. Just two months later, he declared bankruptcy. An investigation by the Official Receiver uncovered he lied about his earnings and forged payslips to get the loan.
Loan Cash Squandered on Gambling
Investigators found Johnson-Vaughton blew the loan money on gambling, showing no real plan to repay the debt. His reckless behaviour led to serious consequences.
Nine-Year Bankruptcy Restrictions Enforced
On 6 March 2020, the Secretary of State approved a nine-year Bankruptcy Restriction Undertaking against him. This blocks Johnson-Vaughton from borrowing without disclosure and bans him from being a company director without court approval.
Sallie Rose, Official Receiver, said:
Carlton Johnson-Vaughton cynically and dishonestly obtained credit, and squandered the funds on gambling, in the few short weeks prior to filing for his own bankruptcy.
“To protect the market from further abuse, we secured extended bankruptcy restrictions which will prevent him from borrowing money from unwary lenders in the future.”
