Rookie Cop’s Daring Rescue from Flaming House Nets Bravery Nomination

Just six months into the job, Northamptonshire Police’s PC Taylor Ladner pulled off a gutsy rescue that has earned him a nomination for The National Police Bravery Awards.

Flames, Smoke, and No Backup – PC Ladner Charges In

Back on October 25, 2018, then-Student Constable Ladner was sent to a Wellingborough home over reports of a domestic assault. But when he arrived, the scene was far worse – the house was engulfed in flames.

With fire crews still on their way, PC Ladner didn’t hesitate. Battling thick smoke and intense heat, he charged inside to save a woman who was trapped and clearly intent on harming herself. Despite her resistance, he dragged her out to safety, risking his own life to do so.

Arsonist Sentenced as Ladner Praised for Heroism

The woman involved was later convicted of arson and handed a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for 24 months, plus rehabilitation orders.

Northamptonshire Police Federation Chairman Sam Dobbs hailed Ladner’s bravery, saying, “He was alone on arrival, with no immediate backup and before the fire service arrived.”

“Taylor placed his own safety behind that of the member of the public, despite knowing she intended to harm herself and was being physically uncooperative.”

“He showed exemplary courage without recklessness. A very worthy nominee for the Awards.”

Next Stop: London Awards Ceremony

The National Police Bravery Awards celebrate officers across England and Wales who risk life and limb for others. PC Ladner is set to attend the prestigious reception and ceremony in London this July, where his heroics will be honoured.
