Boots Unveils First Wave of Store Closures
Boots has dropped the bombshell on its plan to shut 300 stores across the UK over the next year. The retail giant announced last month it will slash its portfolio from 2,200 sites to 1,900.
Why Are These Boots Shops Closing?
The stores marked for closure are mainly those sitting too close to other branches. Boots insists no jobs will be lost. Instead, staff will be offered redeployment opportunities elsewhere.
The firm says this move is designed to concentrate employees where they’re needed most. It’s also about investing in fewer stores to boost service quality in a sleek, modern environment.
First Seven Boots Stores Set to Shut
iNews has confirmed the initial seven Boots outlets on the chopping block, with closures kicking off later this month and continuing over 12 months:
- Heathside Road, Woking – End of July
- UEA Campus – End of July
- Hamlet Court Road, Westcliff-on-Sea – 1 August
- Windhill Road, Wakefield – 6 October
- Upper Warrengate, Wakefield – 7 October
- Glastonbury – 13 October
- Guildford Road, Woking – End of October
What’s Next for Boots and Its Staff?
Boots reassures all team members at these stores will be offered alternative roles as part of the consolidation drive. This marks the start of Boots’ strategy to reshape its high street presence and adapt to changing shopping habits.
