Huge Weapon and Drug Haul at Dover Port Sparks NCA Probe
The National Crime Agency (NCA) has launched a high-stakes investigation after Border Force officers nabbed a massive stash of firearms and drugs hidden inside a vehicle arriving from France at Dover Port.
Border Force Busts 13 Firearms in Custom SUV Compartment
On Monday, 24 February, Border Force officers stopped an SUV at Dover. A deep dive search uncovered a secret compartment in the footwell packed with 13 firearms, including deadly Skorpion submachine guns and pistols.
- 300 rounds of ammunition seized
- Five kilograms of heroin found alongside weapons
- Heroin street value estimated at hundreds of thousands of pounds
Arrest Made as NCA Ramps Up Forensic Checks
Following the dramatic haul, 39-year-old Kasha Sanderson, from Wick, Bristol, was arrested and charged with importing firearms, ammunition, and Class A drugs. He appeared at Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on 25 February and was remanded in custody.
The NCA is currently running forensic tests to classify the seized weapons and establish if they are fully operational.
NCA Calls Seizure a ‘Significant Blow’ to Crime Networks
“This seizure deals a significant blow to the illegal arms trade and drug smuggling networks trying to flood the UK with deadly weapons and Class A drugs,” said an NCA spokesperson. “Criminal gangs increasingly use hidden compartments in vehicles to smuggle firearms and drugs across borders. We’re committed to stopping this threat that fuels violence on our streets.”
Deadly Skorpion Guns Favoured by Gangs
Authorities highlight the growing trend of using concealed vehicle compartments to sneak in illegal goods. Skorpion submachine guns, prized by gangs for their compact size and rapid fire, were central to this haul — making the seizure even more critical to public safety.
Ongoing Probe with International Partners
Sanderson faces further court appearances at Crown Court as the NCA teams up with Border Force, Kent Police, and international law enforcement to trace the origins of the weapons and dismantle the smuggling ring behind the operation.
