Two Met Police Officers Charged After Brawl with Public
Two serving Met officers face criminal charges following an Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) probe.
Charges Filed Over Incident in January
On Friday, 3 July 2020, PC Jack Wood and PC Archie Payne, both from the East Area Command Unit, were charged over a violent episode that left a member of the public injured on 5 January 2020.
- PC Jack Wood is charged with Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm under Section 47 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, plus Common Assault (Section 39 Criminal Justice Act 1988).
- PC Archie Payne faces a charge of Common Assault under the same Criminal Justice Act section.
Officers to Face Court and Suspended from Duty
Both officers are currently on restricted duties and are due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 25 September 2020.
The Met referred the matter to the IOPC after a complaint from the victim, who suffered injuries during the incident.
