Arms factory protesters deny ‘locking on’ charges outside Moulsecoomb site
Two activists have pleaded not guilty after allegedly “locking on” to a road outside a weapons manufacturer in Moulsecoomb.

Ash Yoganathan, 27, and Cole MacDonald, 21, stood accused of wilful obstruction and locking on to cause disruption during a demonstration outside the L3 Harris defence factory on Home Farm Road earlier this month. The pair were part of a group condemning the firm for making parts used in bombs worldwide.
In court: Bail bans return to protest site
Both men appeared before Brighton Magistrates Court this week, firmly denying the charges. The court imposed bail conditions banning them from returning to Home Farm Road in Moulsecoomb amid fears of further disruption.
New laws crack down on ‘locking on’ protests
“Locking on” – attaching oneself to an object or land to block access – became illegal under the Public Order Act 2023. Offenders now face up to six months in prison, unlimited fines, or both.
The case is now set to return to Brighton Magistrates Court on October 31 for the next hearing.
