Teenager Gets Community Order for Brutal Attack on Police Officer
A 16-year-old boy from Swadlincote has been handed a 12-month community service order and ordered to pay £600 compensation at Leicester Magistrates’ Court. He pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm after viciously attacking a police constable.
Officer Suffered Severe Facial Injuries
The officer was rushed to Queen’s Hospital Burton with a broken nose, broken septum, deep lacerations, and severe swelling and bruising. She underwent emergency surgery, receiving six internal and 11 external stitches to repair the damage.
Three months later, she still battles breathing problems and awaits further surgery to fix exposed cartilage and blocked nostrils caused by the brutal assault.
Police Speak Out: “We Must Protect Our Protectors”
“This was a shocking and vicious attack on an officer doing her job to protect others. The photographs of our officer’s awful injuries chilled all who saw them,” said Inspector Rich Jackson, NPA Commander.
“We acknowledge the court’s decision but strongly hope the young man will atone for his crime and start over. Attacks on police officers are simply not acceptable.”
“Full support remains in place for the officer who has bravely shared her story to raise awareness. We will not tolerate assaults on our officers. Anyone who commits this offence will be brought before the courts.”
