Kent Police Officer Sacked Over Shocking On-Duty Misconduct
A British Transport Police (BTP) officer has been booted out without notice following a damning Accelerated Misconduct Hearing for gross misconduct.
Disturbing Claims Surface at Misconduct Hearing
PC Ian Whitmill, based in Kent, faced allegations before Chief Constable Lucy D’Orsi on 8 November. The officer reportedly breached professional standards relating to Discreditable Conduct and Duties and Responsibilities.
Between October 2022 and March 2024, Whitmill allegedly took and shared inappropriate images, including explicit photos of his genitals and videos of himself masturbating—all while on duty and in uniform. He also misused police equipment during these acts.
More Shocking Allegations
- Between March and May 2023, Whitmill is said to have posted inappropriate messages in a private Messenger chat while on duty.
- He was also accused of possessing an extreme pornographic image involving bestiality, though he denied this and it wasn’t proven.
Immediate Dismissal for Gross Misconduct
Whitmill admitted the charges related to inappropriate images and messaging, claiming it was just misconduct—not gross misconduct. The tribunal disagreed.
Chief Constable D’Orsi ruled the admitted actions amounted to gross misconduct and dismissed Whitmill with immediate effect.
“The public and British Transport Police expect officers to uphold the highest standards of professional behaviour. The actions taken by PC Ian Whitmill whilst on duty were inappropriate,” said Chief Constable Lucy D’Orsi.
“His actions do not represent the values of British Transport Police and there is no place for this kind of behaviour in our force. Officers on duty are there to protect the public, not facilitate their own sexual gratification. It is for this reason he has been dismissed without notice.”
