E-bike thug jailed for violent attack after dangerous ride in Cambridge
A 24-year-old e-bike rider has been slammed with a 27-month prison sentence after launching a brutal punch at a man who called him out for reckless cycling on a busy Cambridge street.
High-speed havoc on Garret Hostel Lane
Last August, Raeqwon Rhodes tore through Garret Hostel Lane, careering dangerously alongside two mates. Eyewitnesses say he swerved recklessly between pedestrians, nearly knocking over a young child. When a concerned mother stepped up to challenge his reckless behaviour, Rhodes responded with aggression — shouting abuse before speeding off.
Violence erupts after confrontation
The drama didn’t end there. Seconds later, Rhodes swiped past a woman and her husband. The husband, a man in his 40s, confronted Rhodes about his dangerous riding. The exchange quickly turned nasty, with Rhodes throwing a punch that landed hard on the man’s eyebrow, smashing his glasses and leaving a nasty gash.
Rhodes and his gang then vanished, leaving the victim and his wife reeling. The wife rushed her injured husband to hospital for urgent treatment.
Justice served at Cambridge Crown Court
At Cambridge Crown Court on 12 October, Rhodes admitted assault causing actual bodily harm. The judge activated a previous suspended sentence and handed down a hefty 27-month jail term.
“Rhodes’ behaviour started with reckless e-bike riding and escalated to attacking someone who rightly challenged him,” said DC Leah Beckett, the lead investigator. “Thankfully no one was seriously hurt, but he clearly struggled to control his temper. Hopefully this sentence gives him time to reflect.”
