Two Jailed for Brutal Stabbing Murder of Teen in Croydon
Two men have been locked up for the savage stabbing murder of 16-year-old Camron Smith in Croydon. The teens launched a terrifying midnight attack, forcing their way into Camron’s home before killing him in a frenzied assault.
Life Behind Bars for Murderer, Heavy Sentence for Manslaughter
Romain La Pierre, 20, of Celia Road, NE26, was sentenced at the Old Bailey on 2 December to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 28 years for murder, plus nine years concurrent for robbery. His accomplice, 19-year-old Jordan Tcheuko from St. Johns Road, HA9, received 15 years for manslaughter.
Both had already been convicted on 26 October. Another 16-year-old boy convicted of robbery will be sentenced later.
Hunt for Rival Gang Ends in Cold-Blooded Killing
Camron’s murder followed a violent rampage after the gang robbed a mini-cab driver at knife-point in Streatham. Using the stolen car and mopeds, they roamed Croydon searching for their rivals linked to a stabbing days earlier.
- They targeted three homes that evening.
- The first was empty of the intended victim, but a masked intruder terrified the occupant.
- Unable to enter the second, they smashed down the front door of the third home — Camron’s.
The gang chased Camron to his mother’s bedroom, where he was stabbed fatally. They fled within two minutes, abandoning the stolen vehicles shortly after.
Detective Vows Justice Won’t Stop Here
“Camron was only 16 when his life was so brutally ended in his own home,” said Detective Sergeant Mike Seager of the Met’s Specialist Crime Command. “Despite attempts to hinder us, we’ve brought most involved to justice. The investigation remains open, and we won’t stop until all responsible are before the courts.”
“These defendants are extremely violent despite their young age. I’m proud my team secured verdicts and sentences matching the crimes’ severity. I hope the conclusion offers some comfort to Camron’s loved ones.”
Police Response and Forensic Breakthrough
Officers responded after receiving a 12:46am call on 1 July 2021 to Bracken Avenue in Shrublands, Croydon. Paramedics attempted life-saving treatment at the scene but Camron was pronounced dead shortly after.
DNA evidence recovered from the stolen mini-cab helped tie the defendants to the crime.
