Chatham Sex Offender Banged Up for Breaching Court Order
A convicted sex offender from Chatham has been jailed for 12 months after flouting a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and failing to comply with sex offender notification rules.
Denis Swift, 71, was caught with an unauthorised internet-enabled mobile phone — a clear breach of conditions set after his 2012 conviction for child sex offences.
Swift Caught Red-Handed in Police Home Visit
On Tuesday 24 June, Kent Police paid a routine visit to Swift’s home in Seymour Road, Chatham. During the check, officers found Swift had purchased and was using a mobile phone capable of accessing the internet without police approval, breaking his SHPO.
Police arrested Swift on the spot and charged him the same day. He pleaded guilty to breaching the Sexual Harm Prevention Order and failing to comply with sex offender notification requirements.
Swift was sentenced the next day, Wednesday 25 June, at Medway Magistrates’ Court and locked up for 12 months.
Kent Police: “Swift Clearly Flouted His Court Order”
“Court orders for convicted sex offenders such as Swift are put in place to safeguard against future crimes — protecting vulnerable people and preventing them from becoming victims.
Swift was clearly in breach of his court order, and it’s right that he’s back behind bars.
We carry out regular checks on offenders to ensure they comply with release conditions. Those who fail to adhere can expect to face the consequences.”
