Chelmsford Man Jailed for Six Years Over Child Sex Abuse
A 78-year-old Chelmsford man has been locked up for six years after sexually abusing a young boy he had befriended in St Osyth.
Abuse Spanned Three Years
Alan Norman of Portreath Place repeatedly assaulted the victim over a three-year period from 2002 to 2004. The horrific offences only came to light when the victim bravely reported them in January 2016.
Justice Served at Chelmsford Crown Court
Norman was arrested on April 10, 2016, and charged on October 6, 2016, with four counts of indecent assault against a boy under 14. Following a conviction, he was sentenced to six years behind bars on Friday, July 28.
Detective Praises Victim’s Courage
“Alan Norman preyed on a young boy – befriending him, gaining his trust, and then abusing him,” said Detective Sergeant Dan Jeffries. “These were horrible crimes committed by someone who violated the trust that was put in them. I want to praise the courage of the victim in coming forward and their bravery throughout the investigation. I hope the fact that Norman is now behind bars will come as some solace.”
