Chris Brown Bailed for £5M, Tour Rolls On Amid Assault Charge
R&B megastar Chris Brown has been granted bail with a hefty £5 million security, letting him carry on his world tour despite facing a serious assault charge over a Mayfair nightclub brawl.
£5 Million Bail & Strict Conditions
The 36-year-old was arrested shortly after arriving in the UK for his Breezy Bowl XX European tour leg. He stands accused of grievous bodily harm with intent after allegedly attacking music producer Abraham Diaw at Tape nightclub in Hanover Square on February 19, 2023.
At Wednesday’s Southwark Crown Court hearing, Judge Tony Baumgartner approved a strict bail package including:
- £4 million security paid immediately, with another £1 million due within seven days
- Surrender of Brown’s passport to UK authorities
- Requirement to stay in the UK while awaiting trial
- Ban on contacting the alleged victim or co-defendant
- No entry to Tape nightclub
Though his passport is held by UK police or his legal teams, Brown will be permitted to travel internationally to perform.
Attack Details: Bottle Brawl at Dirty Martini Night
Brown and co-defendant Omolulu Akinlolu, 38, face charges over a violent bottle attack on Abraham Diaw at the nightclub’s “Dirty Martini” event. Both men allegedly chased, punched, and kicked the victim, causing serious injuries.
Akinlolu, also a US national, remains in custody.
Legal Battle Ahead as Plea Hearing Set
Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor Adele Kelly stressed the severity of the charge:
“We have authorised the Metropolitan Police to charge Chris Brown with one count of grievous bodily harm, contrary to section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861.”
The Crown Prosecution Service urges the public and media to steer clear of speculation that may prejudice ongoing proceedings.
