Christopher Richard Buttling, 32, from Merlin Road, Farnborough, has been locked up for eight years after a savage attack on two police officers.
Also known as Christopher Benjamin, Buttling admitted to two counts of wounding with intent and producing cannabis. He’ll also serve an extra three years on licence.
Brutal Attack on Police Officers
The assault happened on July 12, 2017, when officers were called to make an arrest linked to a domestic assault on Merlin Road, Farnborough.
Both officers were seriously hurt. One suffered a nasty shoulder cut, while the other had a deep cut to his hand.
Thankfully, both have now made a full recovery and are back on duty.
Officer Safety in the Spotlight
Response and Patrol Chief Inspector Georgina White said: “Policing comes with risks. We always move towards danger rather than run away from it. But any direct attack on officers is totally unacceptable.”
She added the force continues to improve welfare and support for its highly trained staff.
Police Federation Condemns Attack
John Apter, chair of the Hampshire Police Federation, described the incident as “vicious and brutal.”
“It was only thanks to other officers and the use of a Taser that no one was killed. Police do a dangerous job, but being assaulted is never just ‘part of the job’.”
He warned that while the physical wounds will heal, the psychological scars will last for years.
