Bromley Courts Crack Down: Suspended Sentences, Curfews and Fines Handed Out

A string of hearings in Bromley and nearby magistrates’ courts in mid-June 2025 has led to a crackdown on offenders. Judges handed down suspended sentences, curfews, fines, and penalty points for breaches, drug possession, and speeding offences.

Order Breaches Bring Tough Suspended Sentences

  • Thomas George Pearse, 33, from Robert Street, Plumstead, flouted his suspended sentence by skipping five rehab appointments between February and April. His sentence was ramped up to eight weeks’ imprisonment, suspended for 15 months. No fines or costs were imposed.
  • Stephen Ward, 20, of St Keverne Road, Eltham, ignored his community order after stealing £2,121.31 worth of Nicorette products from Sainsbury’s Ipswich. The court scrapped his old order and slapped on a new one featuring a strict 5pm–7am curfew until December 18, 2025, plus a 25-day programme and 20 rehabilitation activity days. No fines or costs imposed.
  • Eric Taylor, 57, from Barnfield Road, Orpington, was caught with a crack pipe in Lewisham, breaching his Criminal Behaviour Order. He received a 12-week suspended sentence, aided by his role as sole carer for his elderly mother. No fines levied.

Speedsters and Rule Breakers Slammed with Fines and Points

  • Ranjit Nijher, 48, of Dunkery Road, Grove Park, caught speeding at over 70mph in a BMW Z4 on the A20 near Frognalls, Bromley, in January, was fined £220 plus £350 costs and an £88 victim surcharge. Three penalty points were added to his licence. Total bill: £658 due by 15 July 2025.
  • Frederick Baxter, 36, from Salisbury Close, Tonbridge, admitted hitting speeds above a temporary 40mph limit on the A20 Sidcup Bypass in March. He was slapped with a £72 fine, £28 surcharge, and three penalty points. Total: £100 due by 17 July 2025.

The courts show no signs of easing up, sending a clear message: stick to the rules or face serious consequences.
