Southampton Jerk Pan Attack: Worker Stabbed in Change Dispute
A shocking knife attack erupted at Southampton’s Jerk Pan Caribbean restaurant on Commercial Road. Jaypal Khaira, 33, sparked chaos during a quarrel over change, stabbing a staff member and landing himself a five-year jail sentence.
Violence Erupts Over Spat About Change
On the evening of April 13, 2022, tempers flared inside the popular eatery. Hampshire Constabulary rushed to the scene after reports of a stabbing. Officers found the victim, a chef in his 60s, suffering a serious thigh wound. The attack followed a heated argument with Khaira over a minor payment dispute.
Knife Attack Caught Court’s Wrath
Court heard how Khaira forced open the restaurant’s back door, demanding access to the front. When blocked by staff, he flipped – producing a knife and stabbing the worker. Police swiftly arrested Khaira, while the injured chef was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment.
Last month at Southampton Crown Court, a jury convicted Khaira of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. On April 26, he was handed five years in prison plus three years on licence, reflecting the severity of the violent assault.
Police Warn of Violence’ Deadly Consequences
“Khaira’s reckless attack could have been fatal,” said Detective Constable Callum Whitehouse. “Thankfully, the victim survived, but this case is a harsh warning about the dangers of violence.”
The disturbing incident at Jerk Pan highlights the deadly fallout from even petty disputes. Khaira’s jail sentence serves as a stark reminder that knives have no place in everyday disagreements.
