Deal Man Banned for Three Years After Testing Sky-High for Drugs Behind Wheel
Speeding into Trouble with High Drug Levels
Sam Modi, 24, from The Street, Deal, was caught red-handed driving well over the legal drug limit. On 28 August 2021, in Sandwich, Modi was stopped and tested positive for dangerously high levels of cannabis and cocaine markers in his blood.
Record-Breaking Drug Readings
- Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (cannabis) level measured at 4.2 microgrammes per litre of blood – more than double the 2 microgramme legal limit.
- Benzoylecgonine (a cocaine metabolite) clocked at 153 microgrammes per litre – three times the 50 microgramme legal limit.
Heavy Penalties for Drug Driving
On 9 February 2022, Folkestone Magistrates’ Court sentenced Modi to a 3-year driving ban and slapped him with a £120 fine. He was also hit with a £34 surcharge and £85 court costs.
Driving under the influence of drugs remains a serious offence with severe consequences, as Modi’s case clearly shows.
