Serviceman Fights for Life After Savage Attack Near Kent Barracks

A soldier is battling for his life following a brutal stabbing just yards from an Army barracks in Gillingham, Kent. The shocking assault happened Tuesday evening, leaving the victim with serious injuries.

Man Arrested for Attempted Murder

Police arrested a 24-year-old man on charges of attempted murder less than an hour after the attack, which took place at around 5:55 PM in Sally Port Gardens, close to Brompton Barracks, home to 1 Royal School of Military Engineering Regiment. The victim, believed to be in his 40s and reportedly in full uniform, sustained multiple stab wounds.

Eyewitness Account Reveals Horror

A witness told The Sun the attacker jumped off a moped and pursued the soldier, stabbing him repeatedly. “The victim had wounds all over his body,” they said. “There was blood everywhere as I tried to apply pressure until police arrived.” The witness also revealed the assailant deliberately spared the soldier’s wife when she tried to intervene.

Officials Demand Privacy and Swift Justice

Defence Secretary John Healey expressed his shock on X (formerly Twitter): “Shocking to hear of an attack on a soldier in Kent. My thoughts are with the soldier and his family, who deserve privacy at this difficult time. On behalf of the Government, I wish him a swift recovery.”

An Army spokesperson added: “We’re very sorry to confirm that a soldier has sustained serious injuries in an attack in Chatham, Kent. Our thoughts are with the soldier and their family. We request their privacy is respected. We will work closely with Kent Police to support the investigation.

Kent Police cordoned off the scene and are urging anyone with information or who witnessed the attack to come forward. Residents can expect an increased police presence while the investigation continues.
