Novichok Victim Detective Quits Police After 18 Years

Detective Sergeant Nick Bailey, one of the brave officers poisoned in the infamous Salisbury Novichok attack, has announced his heartbreaking decision to quit the police force after 18 years.

‘I Can No Longer Do The Job’

In a heartfelt Twitter statement, Det Sgt Bailey admitted defeat. “I wanted to be a police officer since I was a teenager. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else, which makes this so sad,” he said.

“Like most officers, I’ve faced trauma, violence, injury and grief throughout my career. Despite fighting hard, I know I won’t find peace staying in that environment. For me, it’s time for a change. 1772: off duty.”

Tributes Pour In From Police Federation Chief

Mark Andrews, Chairman of Wiltshire Police Federation, expressed deep sadness over Nick’s departure. “Nick was a personal friend and a valued colleague. He’ll be missed by every officer who’s worked with him.”

“What happened to Nick is unprecedented. I hope no officer or British citizen ever faces that again. I pray the offenders will one day be brought to justice so Nick can finally rest.”

Resilience in the Face of Adversity

Mark praised Nick’s incredible grit. “Both physically and mentally it’s been a tough road. Yet Nick showed real resilience by continuing to fight—raising money for Salisbury Hospital and supporting fellow officers affected by the attack.”

“I’m proud of Nick and his family. We wish them all the very best as he moves on from the force.”
