DNA Left at Crime Scenes Leads to Conviction of Prolific Burglar – UKNIP

A prolific burglar’s crime spree came to an end after he left behind crucial evidence at the scene of his failed attempts, leading to his eventual conviction and sentencing.

Larry Connors, 30, was found guilty of breaking into homes across England, and stealing cash and jewellery before his luck ran out due to DNA evidence left behind at the crime scenes.

In November 2021, Connors attempted a burglary at a residence on Harcourt Avenue in Sidcup. While he was unsuccessful in his theft, he carelessly left DNA on a window frame, providing police with a critical lead in their investigation.

Despite this setback, Connors continued his criminal activities, breaking into a home on Shadwell Drive in Northolt, northwest London, in September 2022. This time, he made off with over £17,000 worth of cash and jewellery. Again, his DNA was discovered at the scene, linking him to the crime.

The DNA evidence not only implicated Connors in the Sidcup and Northolt burglaries but also tied him to similar offences in Chester and Cambridge.

Moreover, Connors was wanted for breaching a home detention curfew related to a three-year sentence for his involvement in a large-scale conspiracy to commit burglaries across Britain.

After an extensive manhunt, Connors was apprehended in June last year while receiving a haircut at a barbershop in Radcliffe on Trent, Nottinghamshire.

Following his arrest, Connors appeared before the court and was sentenced to four years and six months in prison on Friday (April 5).

Detective Constable Sarah Longbottom of Cambridgeshire Constabulary, commenting on Connors’ conviction, stated, “Connors is a prolific burglar who has caused pain and misery for victims, not only in Cambridgeshire but across the country.” She emphasized that burglary remains a priority for law enforcement and expressed relief that Connors is now behind bars, bringing closure to his victims and ensuring the safety of others’ homes.
