Brutal Ex Assaults Partner with Knife Threat in Chatham

Michael Yeo was locked up at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday, 4 February 2022. The 26-year-old, with no fixed address, pleaded guilty to assault, kidnap, affray, criminal damage, possession of a bladed weapon, and being unlawfully at large.

Violent Attack During Heated Argument

The court heard how Yeo viciously assaulted his ex-partner after a row at a Chatham address in September 2021. He punched her multiple times in the shoulder before biting her ear. When she tried to escape to a neighbour’s house, Yeo waved a knife at her, forcing her back inside.

On Licence But Went AWOL From Prison

At the time, Yeo was out on temporary licence from HMP Sudbury. He’d been jailed for burglary in March 2019 but failed to return to prison, making him unlawfully at large during the assault.

Police Urge Domestic Abuse Victims to Speak Up

“Yeo subjected his former partner to a frightening and vicious assault,” said investigating officer PC Harry Groves of the Chief Constable’s Crime Squad. “Domestic abuse is a real threat that both women and men can face and it’s vital victims report offences so we can properly investigate.

Kent Police take domestic abuse extremely seriously. Victims often stay silent, hoping their partner will change, but that leaves them isolated and scared. I want to remind victims they are not alone. If you’re reading this and facing this situation, please pick up the phone and talk to us. Domestic abuse is never acceptable, and offenders will be sentenced accordingly.”
