Drink Driver Jailed for Six Years After Passenger Dies in Odiham Crash
A drink driver caught nearly twice the legal alcohol limit has been slammed with a six-year jail term after a fatal crash in Odiham.
Deadly Crash on A287
Tenny Turner, 30, from Hook, lost control of his Citroen C2 on the A287 at around 12.45am on 25 February 2017. His car veered off the road, hit several trees, and flipped over.
Roxanne Moran, 31, one of the passengers, was thrown from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries. She died in hospital five days later.
Justice Served at Winchester Crown Court
Turner, who was also found with cocaine, initially tried to shift blame onto another man arrested at the scene. However, police soon confirmed Turner was behind the wheel. He pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving while over the drink limit, and for cocaine possession.
At Winchester Crown Court, Turner was handed six years for causing Roxanne’s death, plus eight months concurrent for possessing drugs. He was banned from driving for nine years and must pass an extended driving test before regaining any licence.
Police Warn Against Drink Driving
“This was a tragic case which once again highlights the catastrophic consequences that drink and careless driving can have,” said PC Mark Furse of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit.
“Despite constant warnings, some drivers persist in taking deadly risks. We hope this verdict sends a clear message that drink driving not only threatens your own life but shatters the lives of others.”
“Our thoughts remain with Roxanne’s family at this difficult time.”
