Birmingham Nightclub Horror: Driver Jailed for 11 Years After Rampage

A driver has been slammed with an 11-year prison sentence after deliberately ploughing into pedestrians during a violent brawl outside a Birmingham city centre nightclub.

Chaos Erupts After Tunnel Club Ejection

The nightmare began on the early hours of 4 October last year when a group of men were kicked out of the Tunnel Club following a spat with another man inside. Instead of cooling off, the expelled gang turned hostile, aggressively attacking the club’s security and furiously banging on the doors to force their way back in.

Rather than leaving the scene, they gathered around a grey Mercedes SUV driven by 22-year-old Mohammed Suffi — choosing to stick around with violent intentions.

Deliberate Car Attack Amid Street Brawl

As clubbers started to leave, a fight broke out between the group and their target. Soon after, Suffi sprinted into Water Street, hopped into the driver’s seat, and sped towards people milling in the road. Several managed to dodge the car, but some were hit – luckily without serious injury at that point.

Still fuming, Suffi circled the block and passed the club again, where his mate Mustafa Gohari leapt out and threw punches. A street brawl broke out. When Suffi reversed, Gohari and his victim grappled in the road, just a car length ahead.

In a chilling move, Suffi floored the accelerator, smashing into the victim. The man was knocked down and driven over by both sets of wheels. Gohari was also run over but miraculously survived without fatal injuries.

Further Mayhem and Lucky Escapes

Suffi then drove back down towards the club, deliberately attempting to hit more pedestrians, forcing them to leap from danger. He struck another man standing in the road, knocking him to the ground – though thankfully the man was not seriously hurt.

The primary victim suffered multiple fractures and later told police he feared for his life. His injuries have left him permanently changed.

Justice Served: Convictions and Sentencing

The following day, police found the Mercedes abandoned in Oldbury. Investigators pieced together CCTV, mobile phone footage, and witness testimony to identify Suffi as the reckless driver. After fleeing the country, Suffi was arrested in June 2023.

Last December at Birmingham Crown Court, Suffi, from Aston, was convicted of wounding. He had previously pleaded guilty to affray and dangerous driving. His accomplices, Armaan Abid, Daanyal Hussain, and Mustafa Gohari, all admitted affray and received suspended sentences.

On 27 February, Suffi was jailed for 11 years and six months, banned from driving for over a decade, and must serve two-thirds of his sentence before release. The three others each got 11-month prison terms suspended for 18 months.

This brutal attack could have ended in tragedy but ended with swift justice.
