A man fleeing police at over 140mph crashed into a woman’s car on Christmas Day, killing her instantly. Evan Forde, 32, smashed his Mercedes into Maria Carolina Do Nascimento’s BMW in Brent Cross, North London, in a horror collision that shocked the community.
Police Chase Turns Deadly on 40mph Street
The Old Bailey heard how Forde ignored police signals to stop, even dragging an officer along the road by the car door handle as he sped off. Despite cops calling off their pursuit, bodycam footage showed the desperate attempt to halt the terrifying rampage.
Forde, already on bail and with 10 previous convictions including dangerous driving, fled the scene with passengers after the crash, leaving 22-year-old Maria to die on the road.
Judge Brands Driver Callous, Hands Down Heavy Sentence
“He did absolutely nothing to assist the police. He did absolutely nothing to bring closure or understanding to the family,” said Judge Philip Katz KC.
Forde was locked up for 12 years and handed an 18-year driving ban for his deadly actions. The brutal sentence sends a clear message: dangerous driving and fleeing police will not be tolerated.
