Baileys Boozer Causes Devastating Crash, Driver Jailed
A driver caught swigging Baileys after a horrific crash that left a man wheelchair-bound has been locked up. Paul Jones, 34, from Snodland, was jailed following a heart-stopping three-vehicle smash on the A228 Snodland bypass.
Deadly Head-On Collision on the A228
On the early hours of 9 September 2018, Jones was spotted driving a sporty 1 S4 with a passenger when he joined the southbound A228 just ahead of a Peugeot 307. Moments later, he collided head-on with a northbound tanker lorry, causing the tanker to slam into the Peugeot.
Fleeing the Scene with Baileys Bottle in Hand
After the smash, Jones fled on foot but soon returned – drinking straight from a bottle of Baileys. He then failed breathalyser and drug tests at the roadside, showing traces of alcohol, ecstasy, and cannabis in his blood.
Victim Left Seriously Injured, Jones Sentenced
The Peugeot driver suffered life-altering injuries and now requires 24-hour care in a wheelchair. Jones faced Maidstone Crown Court on 28 June 2019 and was sentenced to three years in jail, plus banned from driving for four and half years. He’ll need to pass an extended retest to get his licence back.
