Drug Dealer Guilty of Murder After Brutal Attack in Kennington Flat
A drug dealer has been found guilty of murdering 56-year-old Shaun McEvoy, exactly one year after the violent attack that claimed his life in a Kennington flat.
Shocking Attack in Kennington
Dedan Simmons, 40, of Clapham Road, Stockwell, was convicted at Woolwich Crown Court following a tense two-week trial. Witnesses revealed harrowing details of the assault that unfolded on February 15 last year.
Shaun, described as living a “chaotic lifestyle” due to drug use, was inside a Durham Street flat with three others when Simmons, also known as Elvis, stormed in uninvited. He demanded money allegedly owed for drugs, flew into a rage, and launched a vicious attack.
Violence and Threats Unleashed
Prosecutor Anne Whyte painted a grim picture: “He pushed Mr McEvoy to the floor and stamped heavily on his chest. He then wreaked havoc in the cramped room, throwing objects and demanding repayment.” Simmons also threatened another person with a knife, terrifying everyone present.
Witnesses spoke of Simmons’ menacing behaviour as he brandished the weapon and unleashed violence inside the flat.
Fatal Injuries and Arrest
After the assault, Shaun complained of chest pain before being found unconscious on the bathroom floor. Despite emergency efforts, he was pronounced dead at 5:24 pm from blunt force trauma to his torso.
Simmons was arrested at his home on March 1, 2023. He denied the murder charge but was ultimately found guilty by the jury.
