Tarsame Singh, 79, has been given a life sentence after confessing to the savage killing of his 77-year-old wife, Maya Devi. The chilling crime took place on May 2, 2023, when Singh walked into Romford police station and admitted the horrendous deed.
Shock Scene Discovered at Elm Park Home
Officers raced to the couple’s house in Cowdray Way, Elm Park, where they found Maya Devi lying lifeless on the living room floor. Nearby lay a wooden rounders bat, stained with blood. The carpet and walls bore gruesome evidence of the attack.
Maya was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem confirmed her cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head. Singh was arrested and charged with murder the very next day.
Guilty Plea at Snaresbrook Crown Court
On November 1, Singh, born April 5, 1944, appeared at Snaresbrook Crown Court. He pleaded guilty to murdering his wife at their Hornchurch home. The length of their marriage remains undisclosed.
“This is a profoundly tragic case,” said Detective Chief Inspector Mark Rogers, who led the investigation. “Their three children are devastated by this horrifying loss.”
