Firework Horror in West Belfast: Elderly Home Targeted in Attempted Arson
Police in West Belfast are hunting for info after a lit firework was shoved through an elderly resident’s front door while they slept. The shocking attack happened around 9.35pm on Tuesday, October 24th, in Glasvey Court, Twinbrook.
Firework Fizzles Out But Leaves Damage
The young culprits pushed the firework through the letterbox before fleeing fast. Luckily, the firework didn’t fully explode but still caused damage to the property. Officers are treating the case as attempted arson with intent to endanger life, highlighting the terrifying risk had it ignited properly.

Neighbourhood Policing Inspector White warned about the deadly danger fireworks pose, especially this time of year. The vulnerable victim suffered severe trauma from this reckless act.
“Fireworks can cause devastating injuries and even be fatal,” said Inspector White. “Parents must know where their kids are and who they’re with. Discuss firework safety and the severe consequences of unlawful behaviour.”
The force is boosting patrols around Twinbrook to curb anti-social behaviour during the Halloween period, notorious for a spike in emergency calls.
