Armed Police Hold Man Over Murder of Harley Watson
Detectives have secured extra time to quiz a 51-year-old man from Loughton, accused of murdering Harley Watson and injuring six others in a shocking incident.
Serious Charges Stack Up Against Suspect
The suspect was hauled in by armed officers on suspicion of:
- Murder
- Six counts of attempted murder
- Causing death by dangerous driving
- Six counts of causing serious injury by driving
- Failing to stop at the scene
- Driving without insurance
Investigation Deepens; Hospital Drama Unfolds
An Essex Police superintendent has authorised an additional 24 hours in custody for the man due to the complexity of the case. Any further detention will require magistrates’ approval.
On Tuesday morning, the suspect was escorted under police guard to Broomfield Hospital’s A&E after reportedly taking an unknown number of pills, according to a police source.
Forensics teams were spotted leaving the hospital carrying several bags of the suspect’s clothing as investigations continue.
Essex Police Refer Itself to IOPC Over Past Contact
In a rare move, Essex Police have voluntarily referred themselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). This follows previous interactions between the force and the suspect linked to the December 2 collision in Willingale Road, Loughton.
