Ex-Northamptonshire Police boss Nick Adderley is in hot water. The 59-year-old now faces serious fraud and misconduct charges after allegedly faking his military service and educational qualifications when applying for his top police job.
Former Police Chief Faces Fraud Charges
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed today that Adderley will be put on trial following an Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) probe uncovering his lies. Malcolm McHaffie, head of the CPS Special Crime Division, revealed:
“We have decided to prosecute former Northamptonshire Police Chief Constable Nick Adderley with offences of fraud and misconduct in public office.
This follows an Independent Office for Police Conduct investigation into claims made by Mr Adderley in reference to his military service and educational attainments.
Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring this case to court and that it is in the public interest to pursue criminal proceedings.
We have worked closely with the Independent Office for Police Conduct as they carried out their investigation.”
Court Date Set and Fair Trial Warning Issued
Adderley is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 10 November 2025. The CPS emphasised that proceedings are ongoing and the former chief is entitled to a fair trial.
They also warned the public and media to avoid any reports or comments that could prejudice the case.
