Ex-Sussex Cop Faces Court Over Bumper Points Cover-Up
A former Sussex Police officer is in hot water this week. Seren Sriganesh, 23, is set to face Guildford Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, charged with fraud and conspiring to pervert the course of justice.
What’s He Accused Of?
- Failing to declare six or more penalty points on his driving licence.
- Not reporting those points to his motor insurer.
- Falsely naming his parents as offenders for three separate driving offences between September 2020 and November 2023.
- Illegally accessing police systems to check details on a speeding offence.
Investigation Sparks Charges
The scandal broke after Sussex Police tipped off the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) back in May. Sriganesh quit the force earlier this month amid the probe.
He now faces a slew of serious charges, including conspiracy to pervert the course of justice, conspiracy to commit fraud by false representation, two counts of fraud by failing to disclose information, and unlawfully obtaining personal data.
Wider Impact on Police Trust
The case raises serious questions about honesty and accountability in the police ranks. The IOPC vows to keep digging to root out all possible misconduct within policing.
