FBI Director Drops Bombshell on Trump Assassination Attempt
In a shocking congressional hearing, FBI Director Chris Wray revealed explosive details about the recent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. The attack unfolded during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, 2024.
Drone Spy & Rooftop Gunfire
The accused, Thomas Matthew Crooks, used a drone to scope out the rally site from 200 yards away nearly two hours before Trump took the stage. The FBI later found the drone in Crooks’ vehicle parked near the event.
Wray disclosed that Crooks opened fire from a rooftop just outside the security perimeter. He managed to hit Trump in the ear from 400 feet away. Alongside the gunfire, investigators uncovered three crude, potentially remote-detonated explosive devices in Crooks’ possession, plus eight bullet cartridges left on the rooftop.
Security Lapses Under Fire
The hearing zeroed in on how Crooks got so close despite being identified as a person of interest an hour earlier. This failure came under intense scrutiny after Kimberly Cheatle, the Secret Service Director, quit amid reports that multiple pre-assault warnings were ignored or mishandled.
Wray stressed that the investigation is still ongoing, with all angles—including possible accomplices—being probed. He warned that rising domestic terrorism, fueled by heated political rhetoric, is a growing threat to public figures.
National Security In Crisis
The attack has reignited fierce debates over the security of public officials and politicisation within national security agencies. A bipartisan task force is set to launch, investigating not only this attempt but a previous foiled Iranian plot against Trump.
The FBI is currently decrypting encrypted platforms used by Crooks, which may shed light on his motives or connections. Meanwhile, the Judiciary Committee continues its inquiry into glaring intelligence and operational breakdowns that almost cost a former president his life.
