Five Arrested After Massive £3.9M Cannabis Haul Seized at Stansted
Five suspects have been charged following a huge cannabis bust at Stansted Airport in January. Officers from the Metropolitan Police swooped after Border Force intercepted nearly 400 kilograms of cannabis worth £3.9 million.
Targeting Organised Crime in West London
The arrests were part of a high-impact operation by a new proactive policing unit based in Hayes, aiming to crack down on serious crime and gang activity in west London.
Border Force stopped two shipments of cannabis on January 26 and 27 at Stansted, totalling 390kg. A previous delivery of 300kg, also believed to be cannabis, was linked to an address in Hayes on January 11, helping piece together the investigation.
Men Charged and Remanded
- Four men, aged 28 to 58 and from west London, were charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 for importing cannabis.
- They appeared at Willesden Magistrates’ Court on February 3 and were remanded in custody ahead of a Crown Court hearing on March 1.
- A 17-year-old male charged with importing cannabis also faced court at Willesden but was released on bail.
Met Pledges Tough Stance on Drug Crime
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Drugs ruin lives, that’s why the Met is committed to transforming how we keep communities safe.
They encouraged the public to learn about the Met’s new strategy to tackle local priorities via their “A New Met for London” initiative.
This latest crackdown delivers a major blow to drug trafficking networks and highlights the Met’s ongoing fight to protect Londoners from the harms of organised drug crime.
