Five Teens Nabbed After Brutal Robbery Near Tottenham Court Road

Police swooped on a gang of five youths after a violent robbery on Bedford Avenue, close to Tottenham Court Road, at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, 14 February.

Victim Attacked and Stripped of Phone, Coat, and Wallet

A man in his twenties was mugged while walking home. A lone attacker demanded his coat and wallet. When the victim tried to walk away, he was quickly surrounded by four others.

The gang threw him to the ground and battered him, leaving the man with minor injuries before fleeing with his mobile phone.

Rapid Police Response Nets Suspects in Nearby Waltham Forest

Officers from the Violent Crime Taskforce, patrolling Tottenham Court Road, responded fast. They tracked five young men matching the suspects’ description near Church Road and Park Road in Waltham Forest.

After a search, police found the stolen phone on one of the teens, aged 17 to 18. All five were arrested on suspicion of robbery and remain in custody as investigations continue.

“This was a terrifying experience for the victim, who sadly suffered minor injuries,” said Detective Sergeant Ross Smith of the Violent Crime Taskforce. “Robbery is a violent crime that often has long-term consequences for victims.”

“Tackling street violence is a Met priority. These arrests show our commitment to keeping London safe. Victims and witnesses must contact police immediately. The first hour after a robbery is crucial — the ‘golden hour’ to catch suspects and keep the streets safe.”
