Ex-Boxer Charged With Murder After Fatal Lewisham Pub Beating
A former boxer from Eltham has been charged with murder following a deadly brawl outside a Lewisham pub.
Paul Tallant in Court Over Murder of Charlie Prodromou
Paul Tallant, 42, appeared at Bromley Magistrates’ Court today (Monday, March 3) charged with the murder of 63-year-old Charlie Prodromou.
During the brief three-minute hearing, Tallant pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody. He is set to appear at the Old Bailey on Wednesday, March 5.
Emotions ran high as Charlie Prodromou’s son shouted at the court screens during the video link: “I know your face now!”
Deadly Clash Outside The Watch House Pub
The fatal assault happened following a disturbance at The Watch House pub on Lewisham High Street late Saturday, March 1.
- Police were called at 8:39 PM after reports of an altercation.
- Emergency services found Mr. Prodromou with life-threatening injuries and rushed him to hospital, but he later died.
Investigators say Mr. Prodromou was asked to leave the pub by the landlady for being intoxicated. As he left, he lit a cigarette and grabbed a glass belonging to a group of women.
At this point, Tallant, a bystander and former boxer, intervened. The situation escalated outside, culminating in the fatal confrontation.
No Bail and Ongoing Investigation
There was no bail application, and Tallant remains in custody ahead of his next court appearance.
Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command continue to investigate and urge anyone who witnessed the incident inside or outside The Watch House pub to come forward.
