Dodgy Surrey Man Fled Abroad After Running Illegal Immigration Scam
Immigration Fraudster Caught and Given Suspended Jail
Mukesh Oad, 44, a former immigration caseworker from Surrey, has been slapped with a 12-month jail sentence—suspended for 15 months—after fleeing the UK when caught giving unlawful immigration advice.
Unregistered and Ripping Off Vulnerable Clients
Oad pleaded guilty back in July 2016 at Westminster Magistrates Court for providing immigration advice without being registered with the proper regulatory body. The law is clear: only registered individuals can dole out immigration advice. But Oad ignored that and illegally advised clients on 14 occasions, charging them hefty fees.
Fled Before Sentencing, Busted for Bail Jumping
Instead of facing punishment, Oad bolted overseas. He returned to the UK last June and was promptly hauled before Isleworth Crown Court in July 2022, where he was slapped with a three-week sentence for failing to surrender to bail.
Commissioner Sends Stark Warning
John Tuckett, Immigration Services Commissioner, slammed Oad’s actions: “People who seek immigration advice are often in a vulnerable position and Mukesh Oad allowed people to put their trust in him, and took advantage of that.
“These offences were very serious, and the prosecution and sentencing send a clear message that the OISC and courts will take tough action against those who break the law by providing advice illegally.”
